A boy and ONE of his dreams

Remember that awesome cool electric guitar Jack got for his 10th birthday? You don’t? Well where have you been? This was BIG news people! Jack has been asking to play the guitar since he was well…this old:

Age 5-first kiddie guitar

And I stuck with my mommy mantra ‘oh honey your hands aren’t really big enough’. This was not based in any kind of fact. It was more based in ‘I-don’t-want-to-invest-in-lessons-and-have-you-quit-until-you-are-totally-ready’. So we made Jack wait. Jack really doesn’t have to wait for much. Yes, we are those text-book ‘bad’ parents who give their kids almost anything when they want it. Well not always. But if they want a video game and a birthday is coming-I buy it. If they want art supplies and it is an open weekend, I go up to the Art store and get some. But this guitar thing was something he had to wait for. And he did graciously. Using the many months to come up with a name for his soon-to-be famous rock band (The E-Volvers) and swapping band members daily amongst his friends. Oh Tucker plans to play the bass guitar and be the lead singer. But he is also really interested in being the ’sound guy with the big board with all the buttons’ too. So we will see. Yesterday I overheard their conversation in the back seat as I dragged them around town to run errands:

Jack: We will get two big houses right next to each other…
Tucker: MANSIONS!
Jack: A mansion is a big house Tucker.
Tucker: Yeah and we can dig a secret tunnel to go between the houses so we can have band practice.
Jack: Yeah! Tucker you should buy a plane too.
Tucker: Okay if you buy a boat. Like a yacht. We can have the whole band on there too.
Jack: Yeah being a rock star is going to be awesome.
Tucker: Mom do you want me to buy you a helicopter so you can come see our shows?
Me: Sure Tuck. Why not?

Jack is ready for his lesson

I don’t have the heart to tell them things about ‘odds’

and lecture about how many other kids in the world want to be rock stars too.

Nope. I just act like it is a dream that is as obtainable as say, wanting to be a CPA.

And while I totally support them in this…

I am not sorting M-n-M’s for their dressing room.

But I will be there to encourage them- every step of the way.

After all, I was their first fan. And their biggest.

Nothing wrong with dreams.

Also, you won’t have to sort the M&Ms for them – that’s what venue flunkies are for – no kidding, you should see some of the contract riders the big performers have, they’re funny, horrifying, ridiculous, and completely unreasonable at times!

Marcy….looks like Jack is taking lessons at the music lab? Timothy has been taking lessons there on electric guitar for a few weeks. Who is Jack’s instructor? Does he just love it? Timothy loves that place and loves his instructor Scott. Yes, T may be too young but it was T that bought his own Electric guitar for his bday with all his bday money.

I love the two pictures. I think it is wise of you to just encourage and not say a word about the “odds.” Who knows…

Dude. I am such a fan of your kids that I’LL sort the M&M’s for them. (As long as I can go on the yacht too!)
