There was a time when I picked out all my boys shoes, I saw them in a cute catalogue and I thought ‘I want my kids to look like THAT’ And I ordered. They arrived. I handed to boys and -they wore them. Slowly I started asking them did they like lace up or slip on. Did they like high top or low top….but still I DECIDED and they never said a word. So last night we went as a whole family (which is weirder than you would know) to the mall to buy J and T new school tennis shoes. Immediately I knew there was a problem. T gravitated to the wall of FAT tennis shoes…that sorta looked like shoes a convict would wear. One pair in particular was nearly all black except for the graffiti style writing on them. I told T…”those are a little ‘Urban’ honey”……and he replied loud enough for the store to hear “I don’t care if they are ‘Bo
urbon‘ Mom. I like them. I thought you LOVED Bourbon MOM?!” Yes, there were stares- but happily (for me) they had none in his size. So we decided to move on to another store. We went from store to store. And in each one the boys picked out more bizarre and weird shoes. Jack falling in love with an Ed Hardy unique (read MEGA expensive) shoe, and Tucker with another version of fat convict shoes…..but still they were not certain. So we went to dinner instead. I told them we could shop on-line this week. But secretly I think I am just going to order something and have it here for the first day of school. You know the day when I drop them off and hit the Bourbon. Yeah it’s like that.
A mile in my shoes…

It’s like that, alright! It’s SO like that. :)
Nine days till Bourbon! (If your kids start the same day as mine.)
there is no explanation for their weird trends. Long as they’re not hitting the Bourbon or dealin the drugs… no sweat.
I am always so happy when EM picks out something I don’t like and they don’t have it in her size. Except the leg warmers she was dying to have one come in one size, so I HAD to get them for her, drat.
I love those shoes in the picture. Are they really expensive? If so, as your cousin, maybe we could have the hand-me-downs?
Although, now that Colby is 5 years old, I have learned that shoes actually get worn out and we can’t pass them down to his little brother, Wyatt, the way we did with all his shoes up until he was about 4 yrs old. I imagine it only gets worse as boys get older.
Thanks!!
This was too funny, Marcy. I just took my girls shoe shopping last week at a friend’s shoe store for sale Crocs — YAY $19.00 sale Crocs, and no fuss, no muss, no tears!
Don’t hate me because my kid wears uniforms to school…
Very funny!
Ahh, yes. A year later, but still so relatable. Ahh, the dramas in the shop-for-shoes showdown.
