Once upon a time I was getting all bitter and jealous about a blog I was following. See this blog was very popular. I mean VERY. And the blogger had gone off and started an online magazine of sorts that was just amazing in design and content. And it too had a lot of followers. But the blogger was using every means possible to market her endeavors. In her attempt to make her blogs profitable. To make them a business. She was just doing what we all will have to do if we want paying advertisers. That is if we WANT to make this our business. So she would tweet (On Twitter) often about this feature or that feature complete with links. She amassed a huge Facebook friend library- where she also told us about her sites all the time. She was still doing her regular funny posts too- but must less often. After all she was a woman with a mission. A mission that I completely understood. And again- a mission I was jealous of. So somewhere in all of the tweets, e-mails and posts I decided to UNfollow her. I just thought-‘I can’t keep up with this kind of competition.’ I was being immature and a total baby about it. Yup. I was being lame. I never dreamed she would even notice. I mean she has a HUGE following.
Then came the e-mail “I noticed you are UNfollowing me…hope I didn’t offend you in anyway.” I was so busted. I was terribly embarrassed. I replied explaining my reasons and she was so kind and understanding. In the end she actually suggested I write a post for her magazine. Weekly. It may have been a consolation prize of sorts- but I don’t think so since she has been very selective about her writers and editors. SO there you go….
I faked left. Life went right. Happy me.

I just submitted an article to her yesterday… I didn’t know all I had to do was un-follow her! kidding. Congrats and I’m jealous.
nice piece. i envy your wordplay.
ahh I have no idea who you are talking about and I don’t really want to know but anyway…I have never understood why people blog to be popular? A while ago I read at a blog that the author was pissy with a reader because she was jealous of her popularity, what’s up with that?
I just knew jealousy pays! I knew it! I am glad you were able to speak your mind and turned everything out for the better. I admire that about you.
Email me the details…I can’t stand it!
Really, the blogging community is just another form of high school.
Oops…and I’m dying to know who this blogger is.
I love you, too.
I AM selective, thankyouverymuch!
xoxo
Marcy! You are so funny. I am glad you are going to be writing. YEAH!
Too funny. Glad things worked out well for you!
Hmmm. Now I MUST know who it is… the suspense is killing me.
I do know who that blogger is
She’s one of the sweetest most generous bloggers out there. You don’t have to be cutthroat to be ambitious – she proves that.
She sounds like a stand up blogger. Glad it all worked out for you!
I know that blogger too and I admire her as a person and as a business woman! She is doing what many of us would like to do! Congrats on your new gig–you will do great and you must be an excellent writer/communicator to be a part of her amazing group of writers!
This was a really great post! Thank you
I appreciate your honesty. I know that many of us, at times, are jealous of these successful ladies. Then, I remember, they work hard for the success. I am not willing to go there. So, I will just enjoy reading the twits, the facebook updates, and fresh new articles on the magazine. Congrats, I will enjoy reading your work on the magazine. Great post!
