Welcome to this week’s Sincerely Fro Me to You post! (Sponsored by We are THAT Family) If you are new to The Glamorous Life Association and are scratching your head wondering why anyone would deliberatly post bad photos of themself on the internet- be sure to click the link for an explaination! I am not the only one who is insane. Okay so, what have I dug up for you this week? Lets take it all in. Year is 1988 and I am attending a costume party with the theme of “TV Characters”. So naturally I pick a character that is not even on the air at the time- being the retro freak that I was am. Can you guess? What you don’t have the vision of Superman and can’t read my badge that says “Mel’s Diner”? And if you don’t remember the show…well, then you are way to young to even be reading me. (I am kidding keep reading k?)…I, ah …watched in re-runs. Yeah that’s it. This week I am including a close up. Just so you can fully appreciate the HOURS of make up and gallons of hair spray needed to pull this look off. And yes, that is gum in my mouth. I was sorta doing a gum-chewing “hey darlin can I get you a cup of joe?” thing. This is what happens when you ask a girl who performed in many musical theater shows to go to a party in character….I might have taken it a little too seriously. If you see nothing- notice the white rebok shoes and my shimmer tights. A fetching combination. And I drove my 1956 Chevy to this party too. All this effort….and when I arrived everyone was completely and totally WASTED. So wasted that they barely noticed my costume. I stayed about 1 hour and came home. Doesn’t matter- cuz now all of you get to see me….looking.this.GOOD.
Can I take your order?

I used to love me some Mel’s Diner. And the shimmer tights were just the perfect touch.
Well, Kiss My Grits! You’re from the show Alice! Great job with the costume!
Would you believe I guessed Rizzo from Grease!
You are far too pretty to be someone from Alice! I grew up watching that and One Day at a Time used to come on right after!!
Love it! Especially the Alice smirk! You had it down baby!
You look adorable!
LOL LOL I Love your pink makeup! very 80′s!
I can just FEEL those tights…Still, I think you look pretty. In ’80s terms, this was pretty.
Hey it was always about dressing up …how fun! You wore it well!
I LOVED Alice!! You look great :-) And I wore the very same shade of lipstick and eye shadow. Honestly, if I could find that pink eyeshadow again I’d be waaaaaaay too tempted to buy it – lol.
You kiss my grits! What a cute chick you were in your waitress duds!!
Those wasted people have no idea how fabulous you looked! Were you Flo or Alice?
You look like that still…. don’t ya?!? Just kidding.
omg, the hair — are you from jersey, too? ;-)
Used to be sad,
Used to be shy…
Funniest thing, the saddest part
Is I never knew why
Kickin’ myself for nothin’ was my favorite sport
I hadda get out and start enjoyin’
’cause life’s too short
Wait – that IS the Alice theme song, isn’t it? Trying to prove that I am indeed old enough to pick up on your dated references but now I’m second-guessing myself on whether that’s Alice or some other sitcom from the same time. Anyhoo. Nice hair.
I think you look cute!! I would have been totally pissed to go through all that effort and arrive to a wasted party. Glad you got to share it with us! :)
Oh, girlfriend! You are on a roll! This is DYNOMITE! I love it and I’m laughing at the wad of gum! You totally fit the part! Then, not now…..
Make sure you link up next Thursday because I’m giving away a very cool prize from the 80′s!
Did that hair hurt if you touched it?
Oh man..I watched that show ALOT! hahaha You definitely hit hte nail on the head with that outfit!!!
Oh. My. Gosh. It’s Alice!!!!!! (I loved that show, but I definitely enjoyed Flo more than Alice. No explanation as to why.)
I LOVE IT the costume, the picture and your story. And I actually saw the show back in the day, however, i believe it was reruns. But I don’t know that for sure. Flo was my favorite!
As a fellow actor, I love that you went ALL out for the costume party. My husband and I are the same way… you ask us to come in costume – the Character will be developed too! haa, haa, haa, when will people learn that about Theatre people?? :D
Thanks for sharing your memory!
Groovewoman:D
Well, kiss my grits! I love the commitment ;)
Oh my gosh!!! You look like Alice’s daughter, if she had a daughter, which she didn’t. Just a tall blond headed son. Ok I will stop now.
I will be hereing that theme song in my head the rest of the day!
“There’s a new girl in town…” Oh I love it!! The outfit AND the hair! I remember “Alice” from the late 70′s or early 80′s.
Oh, the Princess Reebok!!! Did we not ALLL own a pair of those?!?! And change out the laces??!?!
AHHHHHHHHH.
Memories.
Thanks!!! I loved being a teenager in the ’80′s. It was so fun!!!
(and no, I’m not being sarcastic- I’m being serious!!!)
I need to join you with this nostalgia on my blog.
And I L-O-V-E-D to watch Alice.
KISS MY GRITS!!!!!
thank you for the very kind comment on my blog… It will be a very long time begore the key becomes a tatoo because my husband hates them… I have five already that I had over 21 years ago (before I met him) I do not regret any and someday I will convince him that this one will be ok too … maybe LOL. Anyway thank you again I think Rick did an amazing job drawing her out for me!
Laura
Great photo, great memory no doubt.
I always thought Mel was kinda hot. I think he’d have cornered you in the walk-in, so it’s a good thing this was just a costume party.
Did any wastoid at the party ask you for a cherry Coke?
Too funny!! You were so in character!
hahaha!!! found you on Candid Carrie. Love the photo!! I loved Mels Diner….kiss my grits!! lmao!!
FLO!!!!
You’re Alice for sure! Great costume!!
