Lasik. Lasik. I wrote it twice. Because I had it done twice. Yeah that’s right- you heard me. I was the one in a million that Lasik did not work on. Actually the first surgery made my prescription WORSE, which is quite a challenge considering I was wearing coke-bottle glasses already. The doctor assured me it was a fluke and he could correct everything with another surgery. So I went in. And guess what. The 2nd surgery only got me back to my ORIGINAL prescription. Dispite these results (or lack there of) last Friday my husband went in for the procedure. And before the laser could cool down (do they get hot?) he could see better than 20/20. Which I guess means he has the eye site of Superman. Smugly he keeps saying things like ‘it was so EASY’ and ‘I can’t believe how WELL it worked!’. And every time I look at him with envy. Why did I have to be the freak of nature? Why did I have to be the one in a million that Lasik DOESN’T work on? Guess that is cuz I am just that; one in a million. I am ’special’. Yup a very very special girl. In GLASSES.
Oh Lasik…why do you tease me?

OHHHHH if it doesnt work when I try it I think my head will officially spin around!
I’ve been asked numerous times why I don’t go for LASIK. Reason: I treasure what sight I do have, the procedure scares the heebie-jeebies out of me.
Jump out of a plane—YES….
Lasik…. Heck NO!!!
My poor husband got the bad news a few years ago that he is not a good candidate for Lasik because his pupils are too wide. The surgery would make them even wider and he could potentially wind up with severe night vision problems that would prohibit him from driving.
So he won’t even risk it. Some people are just stuck with their glasses (or contact lenses).
I think you’re one in a million Marcy….if that helps.
I’m with you – my doctors says one eye is correctable with laser surgery but the other one isn’t. So I’ll just stick with my gas-perm hard contacts.
I love your graphics of girls with glasses – I had a pale blue pair of cat-eye frames just like those when I was 8 years old.
Wow, to go through all that and still be back to square one. I feel for you.
Unfortunately, Lasik won’t work for me either. But, I can wear contacts. It took going to a couple of doctors to find one that would at least try fitting me with contacts.
I still like wearing my glasses better. Not so much for comfort, but to hide behind. I buy them super cheap from http://zennioptical.com. This way you can have a whole wardrobe of frames to fit your mood.
BTW – Boys do make passes at girls who wear glasses!
My husband naturally sees 20/20 or better – no glasses or surgery EVER.
Of course, he can’t hear for shit.
Maybe his eyes compensate for his ears!
(HUH?)
I am so sorry Marcy! I was legally blind before I had lasik on 01/11/01 yes I remember the date because it was life altering! Legally blind I tell you. I couldn’t even see the giant size digital bright red alarm clock numbers, well I could see a red blob but it could have said EXIT on my alarm clock, I wouldn’t know until I put my coke bottle glasses on!
I got my first pair of cat eye glasses when I was in third grade and wore glasses for thirty five years. The worst part of the surgery was smelling my eyeballs frying. Yes, I could smell my eyeballs frying. But enough people complained about it that now you get to breathe some scented stuff instead.
Coolest most bizarre thing? First time I felt a snowflake land on my eyeball, oh my gosh I thought I was being stabbed by an icicle! Scared the crap out of me!

That is so awful!!! I’m so sorry!!!

I hope you got reimbursed!!!
Well, at least there are tons of super cute frames out there, and since HUBBY now has SUPER VISION, you can spend more on yours.
You’re definitely one in a million!!
I had LASIK done sometime in the 90’s and it is the best money I ever spent. I wore contact before and I HATED it. It is one of the most lifestyle-improving things you can possibly do (if it works). I just remember riding home in the car and reading the license plates on the cars around us through those weird glasses they give you. It was so awesome. Or just waking up and being able to see the alarm clock so easily! I think you should try it again!
If it makes you feel any better, Miss Marcy, it didn’t work for my mom, either. I don’t think it’s any worse, just not better, or not appreciably, anyway.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE. : )
You are definitely not alone.. I had it done 5 months ago and it didn’t work on me either. They are scrabmling trying to figure out what went wrong while I sit here and continue to pay my 11% finance charge on me $3,000 dollars I paid them. I don’t know what to do…. and they don’t either. It’s scary. All I want is my money back. I don’t see that happening to be honest
Had Lasik last year and it gave me about 10 new eye problems, I’m currently off work as a result. Hoping that somebody out there will be able to patch me up. Can’t handle the thought that I’ll be like this for the next 60 years.
Come on, no more Zenni please! There are so many online optical stores to choose from. I have bought from most of them and the nicest deal is definitely the one from 3Wdotglassesshop.com. You have my words on it.
