The playground that just wouldn’t shut up.

IMG_1049-1

On a local school playground, we found an insane amount of writing. Like subversive lecturing really. These poor kids, even at recess they are getting told about such annoying valuable concepts as cooperation, sportsmanship and teamwork. I mean really, is that like even applicable in today’s Darwinian battle for survival success? (insert comedic laughter here) Even still, me thinks the PTA was using up a lot of left over cash that was earmarked for school improvements or the PTA Prez had a brother-in-law who was in the black-top painting biz because this blacktop playground….has ALOT of writing on it. Every where you look is a word or a square. There is even a complete map of the United States. Cuz nothing says good playground fun like a rousing game of ‘Find Illinois’ with your classmates.

Most SOME if the writing makes sense. And yet some of it is astonishingly bizarre. For instance this little square with the words “Hustle” and “Desire” on it. Jack suggested this was the designated spot for doing vintage 70′s dances. We were both at a lost about the “Desire” side. Unless this is also the designated make-out square. When we came across ‘Ski Jump’ Jack said “What the heck? Do they think this is Aspen?” So if any of you can enlighten me about the Hustle/Desire square I would love to hear your thoughts….and yes, stuff like this WILL keep me up at night.

If I were painting it, I would have more relevant phrases like “Bitch, please” and “Jump back, mo-fo.”

All my school playground had were really big crevices in the concrete that made great impromptu ice skating rinks in the winter.

Marcy, that first picture looks like a newspaper ad for something.

Insane playground. But what a fun backdrop for pictures!

This is like the stairs at The Camp and I saw it somewhere else too. It’s the new trend I guess. I also keep seeing the word “Hussle” around everywhere…it’s making a comeback!

Hilarious! I saw those words too and wondered about them…but no outrageous humor came to mind.
Only YOU could turn everyday curiosities into roll-on-the-floor

I hope they have another part of the playground painted with the demotivators, like “placidity” “complacence” and “mediocrity”, just for the PC “we have to include everyone” people.

They forgot “maneuver,” “cut corners” and “cut in line.” Or maybe I’m getting mixed up with the Young Wall Street School for Backbiters and Scammers?

;) You DO know I’m teasing you, right?

LOVED The Hustle picture. Jack has a fantastic sense of humor.

maybe the painter really liked to do the hussle while listening to U2′s song Desire?

thankfully they don’t have money here to spend on brainwashing, i mean painting the playgrounds like that.

Love this! Truly a unique playground feature. Anything that encourages “busting a move” gets a Gold Star in my book!
