Fear Facing #134: Chair Lifts

IMG_1181-1

Well folks, I finally faced a big fear. I went on a chair lift. As in hang a hundred million feet above the earth in a dinky chair that is suspended by a huge cable thread. Its not so much a fear of being high up, but more a fear of FALLING. When I mentioned to Tucker that I was a little scared he said “That is okay mom. If you fall we will just SUE them”. And he thought that was HELPING me. That kid has problems….

But it is important to parent by example, and I want my kids to see their fears as just ‘turbo challenges’. I want them to face things head on. And I don’t want them to let a silly fear keep them from doing/seeing/experiencing something great. So off we went at the butt-crack of dawn to Mt. Baldy. Which is about 40 miles from my home and still in Southern California, but it feels WORLD’S away. For starters it was 40 degrees different in temperature and there was this white stuff all over the ground.

I made a video of the Fear Facing event….a few things to keep in mind: I am not very funny when really truly scared for my life. But laugh anyway k? Jack was a huge comfort to me, and even though I knew he was a little freaked out too, we were brave together. There is no actual video of me talking- cuz I was too scared to put my arm that far out in front of my face. Yes, it was THAT scary for me. There is no video of the ride down- because THAT was terrifying. WAY WORSE. The video is not too long…but the “Bowling for Brother” is my favorite moment toward the end. I am so evil -listen to me laughing. You’ll see what I mean….

OMG! I only live 20 min, from there. That looks like so much fun! Hubby and I were howling!

Did you pass the Baldy Lodge? That’s where we got engaged. Romantik, eh?

Too cute. I just sat on my butt today, so thanks for letting me live vicariously through you. :)

I’ll watch it tomorrow because my computer is slogging and I need to go to bed. But I wanted to give you high fives for the fear-facing. I would ride it if no one made me ride skis down the hill.

I too suffer from horrible fears of heights! Good for you for facing your fears. I almost bungee jumped while in New Zealand and could not make myself get over the fear. Now I regret it!

I am so with you! I had to face mine a few summers ago in Lake Tahoe. We went up the mountain and luckily came back down alive. There was no snow in the summer to break my fall. The Kids were so sweet and encouraging. I told them not to talk to me. I was too scared! We may have to hit Mt. Baldy though. It looks too fun.

Okay, I watched it. Very cute video — I love the interplay between you and the boys (always do)!

I went on a ski lift when I was 19 — several times on a three-day ski vacation that was our family Christmas present. I got good at it (for ME, anyway) but I pretty much conquered it and never need to ever again.

Soooo funny Marcy!!! I have the same fear but never share my fear because I do not want someone rocking my chair lift knowing that I am scared and wanting to just freak me out for fun. So how was tubing at Mt. Baldy? How did it compare to Mt. High? I will never forget Ed at Mountain High.
