Yesterday, while all of the craziness of Proposal 2.0 was going on, I was visiting one of my favorite TV stations in Los Angeles; KCET. I was invited to watch the taping of a long running show A Place of Our Own. Which is an informative talk show format with the focus on parenting & children. It is unique in that they film each show TWICE. Once in English and once in Spanish. No surprise, it is successful in both markets. Now I have been on my fair share of TV and movie sets, so there wasn’t much thrill in that for me. (why yes, I AM that jaded) They are all really the same Kraft Table of food (thank you union requirements), a lot of people whispering, and cool gadgety equipment I am not allowed to touch. And even though the visit to the set was supposed to be ‘bribe’ enough for us bloggers (let’s face it we can be bought y’all) to help promote A Place of Our Own, what really would have made it worth while to me would have been a tour of the historic movie studio, but alas that was not in the plan for us visitors. So I snuck off on my own, to see what I could find. And wouldn’t you know it, I am some kind of divining rod for alcohol it seems. I found the bar. Actually is some kind of office now (how cool is that?)…so all I found was a bar SIGN. But still, photo worthy.
But the best part of the visit was getting to laugh with Martha and Elise, Liz, Melissa and Donna. We came up with the concept for Bacon Febreeze even. (Yeah it was like a round table of genius). And I loved chattin
g with Noreen (Director of Children’s Programming) from KCET and Victoria. We chatted about breast feeding guilt, raising funds for the next season of A Place of Our Own (desperately needed) and the lack of Orange County coverage by Los Angeles based stations (you knew I was going to get that point across right?). I stopped just shy of telling them they need to hire me as a roving reporter to cover Orange County events. And I never did pitch our OC talk show concept……but there is always next time.
If you have a second, take a look at A Place of Our Own…it really is a great production with a lively website. And I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed watching a set guy change clothes on a baby doll, by holding it by the NECK. That alone was worth the 90 minute drive in hell traffic.

A girl of my own heart! Love the photos.
FUN! You pop up at some strange, curious, and interesting places all over So. Cal. Never sure what to expect from your blog! ( except for “FUNNY- NESS” !!) yup- it’s a word now.
Marcy I admit that the whispering behind the scenes was a lot more fun than the actual show itself! I tried to tell my husband about the Bacon Febreeze and he just got that blank look of acceptance that his wife is weird. It was great to finally meet you!
Bacon Febreeze would make me wheeze
Chas would be constantly weak in the knees
The kids would ask, “Can we have bacon, please?”
And the cats would be climbing the curtains like trees
So please, Febreeze, should one of you sees,
Please do not market Bacon Febreeze!
It was great hanging out yesterday. I don’t know if it’s wise to tell the world about our new febreeze scent though. You never know who might steal it.
Hope to see you again, I’ll keep my eye out for you at the bar.
