Sincerely Fro Me to You: Making contact.

FrobuttonSMALL150Welcome to Sincerely Fro Me to You! This is a Linky Party, and it is BYOP so drop your post at the door with Mr. Linky. Guidelines and explanation on why we would all want to post embarrassing  photos can be found HERE.

Once upon a time (circa 1982) my mother bought (for all of us to give)a new arc welder for Father’s Day to give to my dad . Because they were romantic like that. Actually, my dad said it was one of the best gifts he had ever received, so she knew him pretty well I guess. Anyway we had this giant box and no wrapping paper. But for some reason we did have several rolls of blue grid Contact Paper. So I decided to ‘wrap’ the large and very heavy box. I couldn’t lift the box up, so I wrapped everything but the bottom. And then I got all creative; I sat there an cut out letters for the box in a contrasting Contact Paper. (Really Mom, why did we always have so much contact paper in our house?)  I must have been sitting there for quite a while, because somewhere in the middle of my creative frenzy, I fell asleep. With pieces of contact paper stuck to my legs. And of course- my Mom took a photo. Because she knew someday I would want to embarrass myself in front of the whole Internet. Thanks Mom. And Dad? Not sure if you get Wifi up in Heaven…but I am sorry I put contact paper over the only box opening. I didn’t really think that one thru to well.

Bwah ha ha. I love that you just crashed right then and there!

We always had Contact paper in our house too. We used the clear kind to cover our paper back books at school.

I’m sure wrapping an arc welder was tiring. My parents were romantic like that too. One Christmas my dad gave my mom a toilet seat. No joke, I have a picture I’ll post one day. One birthday my mom gave my dad a shotgun barrel.

Ha – how cute! We were the kids who *never* had contact paper (you know, to cover our books for school?). Guess we were too poor for even THAT!

Now that’s funny right there!
I still have contact paper in the house!

Great story Marcy and pics!! I totally want to join in on the fun sometime but I need to go dig old photos out of the garage in my parents’ house in Arizona…..so knowing me and my list of things to do, that will never happen. But my heart is in the right place.

And contact paper? What an invention! I had kinda forgotten about it until today!

How long DID it take you to do that? I’m sure the better story was what you did the night before that made you so dang tired, right?? LOL!

We might be siblings, you and I, because we had that same couch, same sculptured carpet, and same wicker trunks as end tables. Not to mention that blue grid contact paper which lined our kitchen drawers …

We can always count on our parents to capture and preserve our most creative/ridiculous moments. Then we have kids and pay it forward. I don’t think we had contact paper in our house.

What was it with our parents and contact paper? My mom had a whole shelf full of those rolls.

Did she get photos of you removing the contact paper from your legs, too? Because (unless you were shaving at this age) THAT had to have been a nightmare.

Crystal May 1, 2009 at 11:26 am

I don’t even know what contact paper is. Is it the same thing as tissue paper? I’m your cousin….but your side of the family got 100% of all the arts and crafts skills. I’m gonna go google “contact paper” now.
