I am not just dumb. I am a dumb A**!!!

Nothing like being called a ‘dumb a**’ to get me to link to you.

Want to see where my North Korean/Journalist post ended up today? Over HERE.

And it spurred more great discussion on this issue. And part of that discussion called me a dumb a**, a sexist and all kinds of other flattering names. It was my first experience with a ‘message board’ forum and I have to say the women there are WAY meaner than blog commenters. Some of them are just mean AND even get the facts wrong. I guess it is because they are fairly anonymous. (their identities do not link back to a blog or other).

I responded on a lot of points over there…without a spell check. Which apparently is a huge travesty to these women. I wrote my response in all of 10 minutes while doing about 9 other things simultaneously…but I guess that still qualifies me as being an ‘idiot’ in their eyes. Whatever. Sticks and stones.

I am a big girl and I welcome all view points that are exactly like mine here at The Association.

(Excuse me why I go cry in my wine now…)

I think you’re a great sport and I really appreciate you coming by. Even though I disagreed with your post, I thought it was an excellent topic for a board primarily made up of other mothers to discuss so many thanks for sparking a good conversation.

They all think alike there. Bunch of meanie, bitter, librals. :)

Don’t sweat it.

Headless Mom June 9, 2009 at 7:21 pm

I’m proud of you that you said what you think and are sticking by it.

It sucks that people can’t disagree without being disagreeable (and worse!).

Loren Nason June 9, 2009 at 10:04 pm

The power of internet anonymity. You can say things on the internet you would never actually say to a persons face.

I and my wife Sondra completely agree with you 100%

Soliloquy June 10, 2009 at 7:50 am

People suck.

Wow. Just read the forums. I agreed with your post, first of all. We have more than ourselves to think about when we make decisions, and mothers do provide care for their children in a way fathers can’t.
I think it’s interesting that there is rarely an acknowledgment that sometimes making a decision to protect yourself for your children’s sake doesn’t mean that dream is gone forever. Children grow up. There are a dozen things I’d like to do right now that are dreams delayed, and that’s okay.
Also, we need to realize that happiness is a choice. Choosing in favour of our children’s best interest instead of our own dreams and desires doesn’t have to make us bitter and angry. We are shortchanging our children when we choose our wants over their needs because we think that’s the only way to be happy. Whole nother discussion, but the opposite seemed to be the common consensus on the message board.

That’s why we are so blessed to live in this country – everyone is entitled to their own opinions. The only problem is when people get nasty – it’s just not necessary. Keep on, keepin’ on, Marcy! You rock! Our decisions DEEPLY affect our children…ALWAYS!

Giving an opinion that is differs from what is PC or mainstream just brings out the kooks. Sorry that you were called an a$@. Proud of you for standing up for your opinion:)I 100% agree with you. By the way those mean people suck!!

Definitely the downside of internet anonymity. When people behave meanly or childishly online it makes you wonder what they are teaching their children at home.

Martha June 10, 2009 at 11:49 am

Marcy, a website dedicated to hating something really isn’t anything to be upset about. This is the type of place that thrives on heated discussions, and those kinds of discussions bring out the worst people who let out the worst in themselves. We all know you are neither sexist or racist nor a dumb ass. Don’t sweat the small stuff and hopefully your ad rev jumps a little. ;-)

I’ll be a dumb ass with you. Let’s make t-shirts.

Alisa June 13, 2009 at 10:51 am

Just another reason I love you.

Can I join the t-shirt club?

foolery June 16, 2009 at 10:09 pm

I CRAVE being called a dumbass by certain sectors of society (both sides of the political spectrum, by the way, so this is not a political comment, necessarily).

I cut my internet teeth at a VERY contentious, VERY scary forum — ask me about it over margaritas next time I’m down there, Marcy — and nothing surprises me any more. Just know that you are my hero because you stick your neck out for what you believe, full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes!

You’ve got GUTS, Chica. You rock. :)
