Remember the episode of I love Lucy when Ricky gets her a ‘designer’ gown, except it is really a burlap sack and a feed bag for a hat? And she BELIEVES it is a designer gown so she wears it WITH PRIDE?
But is was all a big joke on her….until a real designer from Paris sees her with it and goes and COPIES the burlap-sack look?
Remember?
(just nod in agreement that you remember k?)
For some reason when I look at this ad from the early 80’s I think of that episode. And cry a little inside for the 80’s women who tried to pull this look off. I mean you have to screw up a dress pretty back to make a fashion model look like this much of an obese-pregnant-bedsheet-wearing train wreck.
And the copy on the ad? Priceless.
“Direct from the Rue Saint-Honore in Paris, the enchanting wit and vitality of Robert Nelissen as seen in this beautiful juxtaposition of texture and motif; filmy silk tissue with a crisp organza, windowpane checks with pinstripes. From an exclusive new collection of the designer’s work in ‘The Room’.
So the designer is know for his has ‘wit and vitality’?
So this is one big life-affirming JOKE?
Except he was the only one laughing.
Although I bet Lucy would be cracking up too….

Even the model looks as though she is trying to keep from laughing!
FUNNY!
That’s so funny — that was the first word to jump off the page at me, too. Ha ha Fifi, joke’s on you. You look like a box of curtains.
Oh my! All this dress is missing from the 80s is the big collar! Dropped waist, big blousy sleeves, sash, white hose…good Lordy…been there, done that. Just not all at once!
