D23. Small name, BIG EVENT.

sleepingbeautystorybookSo when I was first contacted to cover the D23 Expo event I was not overly excited.

I thought, “A Disney Expo? So it is a trade show thingy for Disney freaks fans to sell stuff to one and other?” Basically I was hoping for some good swag and maybe grab a Mickey Rice Krispy treat and call it a day. But now? All that has changed. Since I agreed to cover this event I have learned about all the AMAZING things going on over the 4 day event. Here are just a few:

  • We get early glimpses of several all-new Disney feature films. including  Disney’s A Christmas Carol, Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, TRON, Toy Story 3 and more. Walt Disney Pictures will present these special sneak peeks in a state-of-the-art cinema built especially for the D23 EXPO.
  • A special look at what’s being imagineered for the future of Disney’s California Adventure, a peek behind closed doors at the amazing new technologies defining today’s and tomorrow’s Disney theme park experience, and the opportunity to meet and hear from the Imagineers! 20090818_mainattraction_230x230

Collections of classic and contemporary Disney props, artifacts and costumes will be accessible to the public for the first time ever. “Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives” brings together such amazing pieces as the fully restored, 11-foot model of the Nautilus from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea; the stunning, jewel-encrusted book used in the opening moments of Sleeping Beauty and MUCH MORE.

There will also be an ESPN Sports Lounge, live broadcasts from Radio Disney, and a preview of ABC’s new fall primetime shows, where fans can join actors Patricia Heaton, Kelsey Grammer and others. And by others I mean the entire cast of The Wizards of Waverly Place in a Q &A and ‘surprise’ musical performance. ( I am strangely excited about this. I think I have a thing for Selena Gomez.)

Of course there will be countless vendors and artists selling and displaying a million different Disney products. INCLUDING a live auction with Kevin Kidney for this sculpture. Not to mention I am sure to pick up my new obsession a few SHAG pieces while I am there.

This is obviously a kid friendly event. (hello? It is DISNEY) Special play areas and activities have been designed for the younger attendees. So pack up the kids and enjoy yourselves!

Wanna go to? You STILL can!

Just click here

When: Sept 10-13

Where: Anaheim Convention Center

And if you do plan to come, drop me a line so we can try and meet up..

I am bringing a videographer so I hope to get lots of great interviews- maybe YOU!

(I am hoping to snag an Imagineer or Disney Star on camera, but would be just as happy with a reader or two. You guys are just as awesome to me.)

I barely scratched the surface on everything that will be going on.

It is going to be like a 3 ring Disney circus of awesomeness.

Visit www.D23Expo.com to see it all….

Sigh…nothing fun like that ever happens here in Redneck Central, Georgia.

I’ll have to enjoy vicariously through you, Mizz Marcy.

I sooo want to go but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me this year. It’s a little too pricey. I will also live vicariously through you. Can’t wait to read all about this!
