In Placentia, California there is a water tower off Chapman Blvd. that intrigues me. We do not have a lot of water towers here in Southern California, and to be honest I can’t understand what is their purpose or how they work…never the less, every time I drive by this beauty I hang out my car window and snap a shot.

Water towers work by gravity. So, once water is pumped into them, getting the water to your home is essentially free.
Do they switch out the water in the tower? Is it drinking water? How does the water get in there? Why is it so high off the ground? How much water is in there?
Deep thoughts. Deep thoughts.
Oh, Gubby is SO hearing about this. We have a long-standing argument about water towers.
Lovely photos!
I love the last photo. It speaks of more than sky and beautiful color, but of a way of life.
No Marcy – say it isn’t so! Please tell me you are not one of the little country school kids, like Foolery, who stared at the water tower in amazement every time they come to town. It wasn’t until Laurie’s sophomore year in high school before she stopped reflexively staring at the water tower with her mouth open.
First the pig and now this water tower fascination… are there any other red-neck details from Orange County you want to share?
Gubby
Wonderful photo for skywatch. My favorite is the second, the colors are pretty.
Yeah Placentia! My hometown!
Oh my gosh! I can’t believe you posted a pic of the infamous Placentia water tower. I have no idea how the water towers work but I graduated from Valencia High School and it was tradition that every graduating class climbed the tower and either had pictures snapped of the brave soul who climbed it or spray “Class of XXXX” on it! Thanks for the memories!
