Well I did it folks…I went out to Death Valley with my whole family and had a magical time. We rode, we got dirty and we just had a great time. SO many great photos. Hope you can visit my Flickr stream here. Unfortunately the quad we borrowed from friends (first thing I have ever borrowed in my entire life and will most definitely be the LAST) took a bad spill and basically fell apart. So it is in the shop for triage and repair, and as far as I can calculate I would have been able to buy a brand new one for the cost of repairs….okay not really…but very close. Seriously. So that is a major downer…but you know what? It was such a great time for my boys, and to be able to share a piece of my childhood with my kids…it makes it almost worth it.
Since we sold my parent’s big fancy motor home after my dad passed away, we decided we would stay in the insanely remote town of Tecopa. There is nothing there but hot springs, a church and a post office. And I am NOT KIDDING. We stayed at a place called ‘Cynthia’s’ which is part hostel and part doublewide trailer motel. I can’t explain it…you have to see it. The trailer with the bike on porch? That was where we stayed. It was ‘charming’ and functional with heat, showers and a kitchen…most importantly enough beds for all of us. AND? WiFi….which is too awesome for words and a little mind blowing. I mean this place is so far in the middle of nowhere we were pretty sure the maintenance guy was a Charles Manson follower (actually this is only miles from the Mason family cabin). And there is NO PHONE SERVICE. You know you are in a glamorous place when you feel compelled to check the FBI most wanted website for names of the people staying in the trailer next you. COMEDY.
Climbed this…

And I was happy.

-Special thank you to The Husband for paying the quad repair bill being a good sport about all this and not complaining even once when I know you would have been anywhere but in the middle of Death Valley with Charles Manson followers and no signal to your Blackberry. I owe you.

Now that looks like FUN!!! Love the trailer…takes me back in the day when I lived in a trailer…ahhh…
LOVE the pictures! Looks like a great trip! Welcome home!
Oh the things we do for our kids!!! Glad you had a good time. :)
That actually looks like FUN. The only time I ride a quad is in the middle of the night in the summer, irrigating for my dad (once in a great while). No jumping is involved.
On a happy note, your teeth look fantastic! Glad you had such a memorable time. Now get back to work being glamorous. ;)
that trailer creeps my creep.
so might I just say….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Awesome!
The sky there looks amazing. I love that last photo of you.
