I am excited to report that a very good friend of mine is coming for a visit at the end of the month. She keeps changing the dates on me, because she thinks I have nothing to do with my life but sit around and wait for her to show up and visit me, but whatever. (joke written just for her)….so in honor of her pending visit I decided to tell the internet what a freak great mom she is. Let this serve as a warning for all the other people who are DYING to come visit me in the future. Yeah, there are so many. Maybe we should do a schedule or something. Oh nevermind…
I have a good friend, I have lovingly nicknamed "Amish Mom". Let me explain the origins of her silly nickname……Amish Mom has chosen to have one TV in her house. And this single TV in her home (we have three ) does not have a Wii, Playstation or an XBox connected to it. Her kids are not killing aliens on the one computer (we have three of those too) in her home, nor staring into cell phones, iTouches, IPods, Gameboys or PSPs at the dinner table. Because they don’t own any of those items.
You see, Amish Mom has made an unconventional choice to keep her children as electronically distraction free as possible. Don’t get the wrong idea, Amish Mom is not the churn-your-own-butter-homeschool-in-the-basement-mommy-will-make-you-a-prom-dress lady you might be picturing, although her kids did give my kids a weaving LOOM as a Christmas present once, but I digress….

Side note: ‘Amish Mom’ is the same mom from this visit.

Good post. Thinking about it even more, makes me realize I have a little of an “Amish mom” in me. Some days am just not into all the batteries, gadgets all that tech stuff. Sometimes all I want is some peace and quiet, and then there are days when all I want is some peace and find that distracting my gals with all the tech stuff actually helps me get some alone time. So am on the fence, but very happy.
The answer is almost always right in the middle. It’s always the parents’ call though. each family is different. Well written, marcy
