Should have been titled, “Living with Butch!”

What a weird concept to look back on. I love astronauts, but I wouldn’t buy an album of a bunch of astronauts singing songs about being astronauts. Or would I? ;)

That was an awesome album. It was released after Lavender Jane Loves Women and I have it on cd now, with both albums, re-released.

I know you straight people won’t understand, but when those albums were released, most of us were closeted. Lesbians were losing their kids just for being lesbian, ditto housing, jobs, and even lives. Women’s music celebrated our community– lot of lesbians were starting co-operative child raising and child care, were getting politically active, and we STILL, thirty-plus years later do not have the right of civil marriage recognized by the Federal government nor most states in the US. Foolery, Astronauts can marry other astronauts (provided they’re of opposite gender) and no one has to my knowledge raped or murdered an astronaut because they think astronauts are unnatural.

Astronauts generally don’t get the courts taking away their kids because of their “astronaut lifestyle” (which happened routinely to lesbians when that album was released.) Laugh if you will. The music was great in some cases, or just fun in others. Alix is a serious musician, and this album remains one of my favorites, not just for nostalgia.

Laugh if you choose, but this album was and is serious music. And it still has a market or it would not have been re-released in cd form.
