I know nothing about baseball. ![]()
Except that I really like it. I like the uniforms, the stadiums, the cheering (and jeering) fans and most of all I like the history. So it was tons of fun to spend the afternoon with Mark Langill from Dodger Stadium the other day. He is their official historian, and he knows his stuff. By his own admission- he said he fell into the job because he was passionate for baseball but wasn’t the best player. We walked the hollowed halls of Stadium, past the players locker rooms, training rooms and more. And yes I did take a photo of the players urinals. Cuz that is how glamorous I am. But look closely- there is a vintage scale in the back of that room too. Actually, everywhere you look there was history. From the stellar stadium itself which has been refurbished back (or better) to it’s former glory as a mid-century jewel, to the organists spot which sits unassumingly in the press box area. Complete with a potted orchid for decor.
We stopped in the dugout for a little chat…(I ask if anyone is buried in the field. I pretend to know baseball history. But watch anyway)

Oh an do you know what it is like to run into Tommy Lasorda in the halls of Dodger Stadium? Well, it is like running into Walt Disney at Disneyland. Of course that would be way weirder cuz Walt is dead and all. But I think you get my point. It was both amazing and bizarre. He was gracious and kind and we chatted about the Tommy Lasorda Field Center in my town (dedicated in honor of his son Tommy who passed away). And Mr. Lasorda let me know he just donated another $75,000 to add MUCH needed air-conditioning to the facility. Which is very generous. My sweaty kids thank you.
Do you see how happy I am here?
Thanks Tommy. And Mark.
And thank you Dodger Stadium for a great day.
Want to go on your own tour of Dodger Stadium?
YOU CAN.

Great… except for that camera footage. What, did your camera man tour the beer gardens before he shot that shaky footage. A helmet cam strapped on a “On Golden Pond” era Katherine Hepburn would have been more still.
Seriously, great post. It’s almost like I was there.
Really cute post. Enjoyed every minute.
just watched the video (sound card at work ain’t working). Nice job, and thanks for the camera credit!
Nice job. Will show it to my Dodger-freak husband when he wakes up from his nap. Wait, NAP? I’m waking his butt up NOW. ;)
