Hanging with Mr. Brogan.

The Three Disneyland Moms. Or otherwise known as The Ginormous Glasses Girls.

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending the Disney Social Media Mom conference (along with my Three Disneyland Moms girls seen above) at Walt Disney World, and it was another well planned, enjoyable Disney event. Disney has embraced new/social media in far better ways than most brands, and this conference with rockstar speakers (Matt Jacobson-Pres. Marketing /Facebook and Social Media guru Chris Brogan). Other brands who look on year after year at Disney’s ability to lead in areas of brand loyalty and most importantly- profitability…should take a lesson for their playbook; Meet your best brand advocates in the space they live. A great example of the power of this small (approx 250 attendees) conference was the fact that within minutes of taking the stage all of the speakers and entertainers were trending on Twitter. And all with a #DISNEYsmmoms hashtag attached. Now that is an ROI most brands would die to achieve.

But the personal highlight of the event for me was the opportunity to interview Chris Brogan.  Other than a brief introduction earlier in the day (as ‘this is the one who is going to interview you’) I really didn’t know much about him. Besides of course what we all know; That he has 9 million successful businesses in the social media/marketing arena, his books make all the best selling lists and is arguably one the most well known and revered social media experts; with few  even coming close for second.

So here is my uncut (one take) interview with Chris:

I know you are busy- so here are the Marcy Cliff Notes; Chris and I chat about:

  • Should brands be investing in their Facebook pages in lieu of having a strong Digital Hub (web page)?
  • The benefit of using the first person on social channels for brands.
  • How brands are determining ‘success’ from new media campaigns-Likes, interactions etc..

And…

  • A random question about his ride in the Wienermobile. Cuz I like to mix it up like that.

Chris was gracious, nice and generous with his time for both me and my little interview but also for the duration of the conference. He would talk to anyone who approached him, took thousands of photos with attendees and did it all with a sincerity that is rarely seen these days. He was more soft spoken than I expected (apparently not everyone is loud and overly animated like me), and strikingly calm and collected.

Chris opened his talk with ‘I see you’ as an option to the meaningless ‘hello’.  And I am happy to say, I saw you too Chris. And appreciate your time with us all at the conference.

More about the conference (and photos of the hotel here on The Daily Disney)

Marcy this video was brilliant. You are a superior interviewer and a great social media expert in your own right. Someday I suspect Mr. Brogan will be inteviewing YOU.

Awesome job, Marcy. And I agree that Chris seemed very lit up in your presence…or maybe it was just your radiance that was shining upon him. Dunno. Either way, it was a great interview with great questions. You never fail to impress!

Until this interview I never heard of you Ms. Massura. But it is blatantly clear Mr. Brogan has meet his match. You are both brilliant. Would love to see more of you guys having conversations like these actually.

Great interview! Agree with his answer too… Why “rent” a space when you can “own” (referring to things like investing in a Facebook Page versus your own website).

Glad you all had a great time!
