It is 1986 and Marcy is getting ready for a hot night out. Acrylic nails that look like razor sharp mauve daggers, ice blue eye-shadow and although you can’t see it in this pic, freeze dried tall bangs that would make the guy from Flock of Seagulls jealous. So Marcy, where you going?
I was going here….
To Knott’s Berry Farm Studio K outdoor dance club for teens. This was the HOT SPOT of Orange County in the mid-late eighties. Oh the hairspray, the smell of clove cigarettes and Darkkar Noir cologne swirling to the hot tracks played by none other than local DJ celebrity Richard Blade from KROQ. (he is now on Sirius XM Radio playing the exact same songs calling them ‘classic oldies’. Whatev.)![]()
Here he is, with some girl who broke out her killer sweater to go dancing. Quite a look. And even though I had the EXACT same sweater, I don’t know this girl, but I stole her photo from this fan site on Facebook. And guess what? All that reminiscing about the average good ol’days has done? Knott’s is hosting a Studio K REUNION. Thaaaat’s right. In a few weeks, Studio K will live again, only this time with 40 somethings with flatter hair trying to relieve their youth and wondering if there is someplace to sit down when their feet start hurting.
Wanna go? Richard Blade will be there. FOR REALS.
Here are the deets (or the 4-1-1 as I would have said in 1986. Cuz I was lame cool like that)
Buena Park, CA – Knott’s Berry Farm will be partying like it’s 1984 with the one night only return of Studio K and Could 9. These dance clubs, formerly inside the Knott’s Berry Farm amusement theme park, were the place to be for many Orange County teens from 1984 to 1991 and were known as two of the most successful dance facilities in the nation.
Now, after 20 years, both Cloud 9 and Studio K are returning for a one-night-only reunion party set to take place on April 1 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. Two full bars, original DJs from the clubs, the hosting services of ex-KROQ personality Richard Blade, and access to some of the theme park’s most popular rides and attractions are expected to draw thousands who were regulars during their teen years.
Tickets for the event are $26.99 and can be purchased at Knott’s Berry Farm’s ticket booths as well as online at www.knotts.com. For more information, call (714) 220-5200.
I know. You are dying for ONE MORE look at awesome frosty make-up Marcy huh? Okay. Here you go.
Your eyes are burning from all the eighties-permed goodness of it. Oh and that look? I think that was my “I am SO HOT and sexy” look.
I was delusional from an early age.

I spent many of weekends there with my torn black tights, white makeup, dark eyeliner and massive amounts of aqua-net sculpted hair (in the white can of course) trying to look cool, dark and mysterious. Of course the guys used the same aqua-net and eyeliner complete with monkey boots or creepers and safety pin pegged pant legs while reciting depressing poetry and quoting Morrissey lyrics. Cloud 9 and Jetts nightclub in Long Beach were a staple for many of us “goths” back in the 80′s. :)
It’s a time in my life I shutter looking back upon (pictures anyways) but some of the best moments of my teen years. I definitely plan on going although a lot of my friends who said they were are now not sure if they want to relive the past (or be reminded about how old some of us really are)
FYI tickets are $28.99 and eTicket fee is $3.00. But well worth the fun :)
Since you were only 16 your freckles hadnt disappeared yet- as I had ordained it to be so by age 20.
HA!
Are you sure this is legit? It IS on April 1st…
