Next month I will be celebrating my 14th wedding anniversary. I know- we are as shocked as you are. For a couple of insane people who got in engaged in a week, and married a year later- I am not going to say we didn’t think it would last….but still we are still stunned that it did.
The other day I was asked innocently (by some still skinny pre-birthin hips young newlywed) the secret to staying married.
So I told her the secret.
Don’t get divorced.
She laughed. Giggled actually- and thought I was kidding. But I wasn’t. Sure there is all that stuff about communication, respect and oh what was that other thing?
Oh yeah …LOVE.
Marriage is complicated hard stuff. So so many variables, and situations and timing and all that other crap. I have no answers. But I am not gonna lie; when I see someone getting married I have an internal eye-roll moment and think “Oh hell- they have NO IDEA.”
But who the hell am I to judge?
Especially after looking at some of the wedding planning boards on Pinterest. I USED to think I had a pretty great wedding. Now I feel like I phoned it in.
So I asked the husband about renewing our vows.
And he said “So marriage is like a car registration now? We have to re-new it? Hell no”
[sigh]
Guess I will never get the chance to plan a mason-jar-barn-candle lit themed wedding of Pinterest freaks my dreams. That is okay. I will just have to be happy with what I got out of the last one-
the marriage.

ha! i was just looking at pinterest mason jar wedding candles this morning. seriously.
Happy Anniversary! Maybe there’s a 15th wedding anniversary party in your future. holler if you need help filling the mason jars.
Funny how the country barn theme is so often used by people who don’t live in the country and probably have never been in a barn! I went to a wedding of a couple (who owned a ranch) and the bride assured us she had cleaned the manure off her boots before the ceremony. Now *that’s* country barn.
