My 2nd child was born a few days before Christmas. Not so much his choice-but more a decision my doctor (a mother of 5) and I made when we both realized that with a due date of Dec 25th, the kid could very well decide to come into the world on that very day. Which would have been highly inconvenient for both of us. So she induced me a few days early. (there were more reasons like I had been very ill, the baby was totally cooked and I had gained-hold your scream- 80 lbs already). So Tucker was born, and I managed to check myself out early to get home from the hospital by Christmas Eve. I was eager to set up everything for Christmas morning since Jack was only two. Yes, that’s how us Type-A folk do childbirth. Like you didn’t know.
So every year we make a real attempt to celebrate Tucker’s birthday with something NOT CHRISTMASY and usually a few weeks early. We once rented a skate rink, and of course we have done the ‘bounce-house’ parties….and this year? This year my boy asked if he could go deep sea fishing with his best friend. He told me it was his ‘life long dream’ (bare in mind that makes this dream 8 years old). So off he went in his #8 shirt with his dad and brother and best friend at 5am to the boat dock in Newport. They fished for 6 hours straight. The husband sent me photos from the Blackberry which I loved. I meet them as the boat came in and we got a bite to eat before they tried the bungee jump (see post below). He was so happy. And so was I. After all, the best part of this mom thing is to be able to help make your children’s dreams come true. Even if it is gonna take weeks to get the SMELL of this particular dream out of his good coat.
