California

In Los Angles, near the Disney Studios in Burbank is a little restaurant, that was Walt Disney’s favorite. Disney employees came so often it was referred to as “The Studio Commissary”.  Near the fireplace in a quaint corner is table 31, where you would find Walt sitting nearly every day at lunch time.

I completely and totally understand why Walt loved this place. It embodies so much of what he was about; joyful service, incredible product and transformative theme experience. He loved it so much he created (yes, apparently drew himself) a large work with the Tam-O owner (Lawrence Frank) with Mickey, Minnie, Donald’s and Goofy all in their best Scottish outfits.

Lunch from the bar is a carving station with unearthly good brisket or turkey, homemade potato chips and side salads. There is a full dinner service menu which is more upscale and just as delicious. Oh and if you are thinking of going, try to go during the Holidays. It is simply beautiful during the holiday season.

From Wiki: The Tam O’Shanter Inn was established by Lawrence Frank and Walter Van de Kamp, founders of Van de Kamp’s Holland Dutch Bakeries who went on to found the Lawry’s restaurant chain.[2] They commissioned Harry Oliver to design the building. He constructed the Storybook Style building aided by movie studio carpenters. The Tam O’Shanter Inn opened in June 1922 and was a great success. The owner said, "Every piece of wood which was used in this structure was thrown into fire first with the result that we never had to paint it and it got more beautiful as the years went by." The Tam-O, as it is known for short, is located at 2980 Los Feliz Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90039 at the corner of Boyce Ave and Los Feliz Blvd in Atwater Village.

My baby. The Killer.

TuckerCenter3

Our holiday weekend was all about hockey, since Tuck had his first tournament of the season. I love this sequence of photos I was able to capture from the stands. They are closing in… Getting even closer… And BAM! It is outta here! On Friday I captured one of his goals on video too. [...]

Jim Abbott and the Challenger League.

IMG_5986

Jim Abbott  is a very famous pitcher who pitched for several major league teams including the Anaheim Angels. And Jim has one hand. That’s right- he is ‘handicapped’ or in some circles  would have been called ‘special’ as a kid. As a child he began his astonishing sport career by being giving opportunities from coaches [...]

{WordTalk} RISK

Last week these signs started appearing on freeways around my home. And my clever friend Steve mentioned “Hmm what if you are on a business call that is going to make you $300? Is it worth it then?” I replied with “You would think DEATH should actually be the deterrent- because to a lot of [...]

Why we never have fresh squeezed lemonade.

It is officially Spring Break around these parts, which I have renamed for those of us who work from home ‘week of guilt and low productivity’. This is the first year I didn’t grab the kids and go to Catalina Island or San Diego for at least part of the break. So when I came [...]

Why we value Ice Cream Truck experiences.

IMG_0297 copy

I know. This is the creepiest ice cream truck you have ever seen. And the ice cream man driving it? Let’s just say he made Hannibal Lector look like a boy scout. So why on earth would I yell for the kids ‘ICE CREEEEAAAAAM TRUUUUUCK!!” And frantically grab money to give them as we all [...]

I grew up attending a popular weekend dance club for kids called Studio K (located inside Knott’s Berry Farm. BTW an adorable Facebook fan page can be found here) Studio K played the best music of the time (80’s), The local kids who came just for the evening and the tourists who stumbled upon the [...]

AdTalk: Bowling makes me HAPPY

“Instead of bowling, Janie decided to entertain the on-lookers with her Irish Jig across the lanes.”   Perhaps inspired by Alice, I have made plans to go BOWLING on a date night with my husband and another couple. I have never really officially bowled before. Oh I have put on the shoes, ordered a beer [...]

Okay the suspense is killing me. Can anyone please tell me WHAT the top secret Christmas-tree shaped project is??? What could it be? One of Marie’s dolls? How about plans for another creepy brother-sister talk show come back? Maybe it is the book of Mormon as told by Father Osmond. Oh someone tell me!

AlbumTalk: Blame it on Cuba.

In an attempt to distance themselves from their Uncle Castro back in Cuba, the sisters added the ‘De-‘ to their last name when they came to America. The helmet hair and bushy eyebrow trend can only be considered  passive revenge for the whole Bay of Pigs thing. We retaliated with The Jonas Brothers. – - [...]
