I went to my girlfriend’s (Shannon) annual cookie bake/swap/cocktail party yesterday. And although I am a lot of things, one thing I am most definitely NOT- is a BAKER. My grandma never baked, my mom doesn’t bake…and so my friends, I do not bake either.It is not in my genes. I come from a long line of BUYERS not BAKERS. So I approached this like any other area of my life and applied my motto of ‘do what you know’. So, Hmmmm. Lets see…I am an artist. And I have a fairly steady hand…so I put the emphasis on DECORATING the cookies. I made about 50 sugar cookies (video of the event explaining the wine bottle in photo will be posted on the next G.I.R.L Party on Dec 23rd. Cuz it was glamorous.) and then set my sights on perfecting a royal icing recipe. Then, all that was left was basically DRAWING on the cookies with the icing. And you know what? It was loads of fun. Of course Kate’s Lemon Drop cocktail didn’t hurt either. Or the wine. Or the 3rd Lemon Drop cocktail.Or the next glass of wine…Yeah. Good times.
So while the other gals were doing complex math problems to calculate butter to shortening ratios…I was sitting in my corner just decorating
away. Oh don’t get the wrong idea, I am not gonna start baking on a regular basis. I am no Marcy Stewart. But I am looking forward to next year already…but I plan to hydrate better before hand. Cuz who knew you could get a hangover from a cookie swap?
