how to

So Picnik is closing.

Oh MY GAWD PICNIK IS CLOSING!!!!!

Oh wait.

No its not.

Nevermind.

Actually it is still open- and now all the premium features are free to everyone.

(check out this ‘we are NOT billing you again’ notice I got)

So why are so many people talking about Picnik and how it is closing and how they are devastated they will never be able to air-brush out their wrinkles again and the world will be forced to see unedited photos of them and will shriek in horror?

Because this week Google announced Picnik is soon only going to be available by accessing it through Google Plus.

Which makes me smile from ear to ear.

This validates everything I have been trying to explain for months. Google is not trying to compete with Facebook in the social space at all- what Google is doing is creating a social identity hub…a PORTAL to all of their other Google properties.

Yes, ALL OF THEM.

So like I said here…I don’t have to try to encourage you to get on Google Plus, because pretty soon (very soon) you will be compelled to do so if you want to access Google Properties. I can envision even the giant platforms like You Tube and Google Docs being ONLY accessible through Google Plus. So even if you don’t plan in using Google+ to have water cooler chats or upload photos of your dinner- you will indeed BE USING IT.

BUT HOW DO I DO IT MARCY?

A mini tutorial:
OPen G+
Go to your profile, click photos

image

Click Upload

image

Upload photo.
Run your mouse over the photo-
Click the pencil icon to edit photo (automatically takes you to Picnik)

image

Use Picnik to your hearts delight.

image

Save to an album on G+ (I created one called Picnik Edits)
From here you can publish to your G+ feed or not. (if not-click cancel at this time)
image
Now open your albums. Find the image. Click on it. And you will see…

on the lower left hand side is ‘Options’. Click it and you have the option to download the image to your computer if you would like.

Remember those ‘vision boards’ we were all making a few years back after reading The Secret? You know, back when we believed if we envisioned WHAT we wanted it would come true if we just BELIEVED. Well it’s back. Kinda –sorta. And it has gone digital. This time it is called Pinterest (Yeah that [...]

This week I attended Blog World Expo and New Media conference in Los Angeles. I was thrilled to be asked to present my session all about managing communities online. And while you would imagine the session part to be the main focus- it really was so much more than that. I often use the phrase [...]

I have been avoiding this post. But this post will not avoid me. It is plaguing me. I think about this post all.the.time. I have to write this post- if not for you- but for my sanity. I am cautious- because I know how brutal the internet is…but here goes nothing…   (CON)                                                              (PRO)   [...]

How to be a blogging success. Sorta.

Success. It is a tricky word. And as in most professions it is a moving target. Blogging is no exception…. When I began to blog I remember thinking “if I can get 100 readers a day I will be able to relax and I will feel like I am a success”. I even wrote [...]

Seems there are interesting people everywhere. Once I leave my house.

So the other day the power was out , but I had to make a photo enlargement so I ran to my local store and used the Kodak Kiosk. And I made this little video about the whole experience. But while I was there we meet this really nice guy, who explained every single photo [...]
